Splash Pad Delayed for Additional Funding Opportunities

The City of Watauga recently received notification from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) that our request for grant funding in the 2017-18 fiscal year to construct a new Splash Pad in Capp Smith Park was denied.  The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department indicated that due to funding limitations a number of projects could not be supported because of the communities impacted by Hurricane Harvey which devasted parts of the Houston and coastal regions of eastern Texas in August of 2017.

Based on the recommendation of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the City of Watauga plans to renew their request for grant funding for the Splash Pad project by resubmitting our application for consideration in the 2018-19 fiscal year.  As a result of this decision, construction of the Splash Pad has been postponed until TPWD has the opportunity to reconsider our grant proposal.

If awarded, the fiscal 2018-19 grant funds would allow the Splash Pad project to be completed in the fall of 2019 with full operational availability being planned for the summer of 2020.

For more information regarding the Splash Pad project or the funding process, please contact the City of Watauga Parks and Community Services Department at 817.514.5828.
